How to install CyberPanel and your first OpenLiteSpeed site

Choose the right CyberPanel installation options, bring up a test site, and verify connectivity before moving production traffic.

Violet control panel and fast web server connection

This guide uses a clean Ubuntu 22.04 LTS server to install CyberPanel with OpenLiteSpeed. Do not place it over another hosting panel. Start with a test domain so setup mistakes do not interrupt a live website.

1. Plan the installation

Confirm the distribution against the official installation guide. For this small demonstration, budget 2 GB RAM and 25 GB disk; real application capacity depends on workload.

Decide where DNS and email will live. Installing a local DNS service does not change delegation, and moving a website does not require moving its mail. Preserve existing MX records if email stays elsewhere. Follow the migration guide for a live move.

2. Prepare Ubuntu

bashsudo -i
apt update
apt upgrade -y
apt install -y curl ca-certificates
hostnamectl set-hostname panel.example.com
free -h
df -h /

Replace the hostname and create its A record. Resolve package errors first; reboot and reconnect if required.

3. Start the installer

bashcurl -fsSL https://cyberpanel.net/install.sh -o /root/cyberpanel-install.sh
sh /root/cyberpanel-install.sh

Choose OpenLiteSpeed, a current stable release and a unique administrator password. Enterprise LiteSpeed has separate licensing. Use a local database unless you have already prepared a remote database service.

Select additional services deliberately. An unused mail server adds another component to maintain. Record your choices so a later rebuild can reproduce the same environment.

4. Check panel connectivity

Use the address printed by the installer, normally HTTPS on 8090. Limit administrative access to your IP. Website traffic needs 80/443; other ports depend on the services you actually enabled.

Inspect the server:

bashss -lntp

If there is no listener on the panel port, opening the provider firewall cannot fix it. Investigate the service startup first. If the listener exists, check both host and provider network rules.

5. Add a test website

In Websites, create the domain with an owner, contact address and compatible PHP version. Point public DNS at the server and request a site certificate. The website certificate and panel certificate are separate.

Publish a minimal page before installing a complex application:

bashcurl -I http://site.example.com
curl -I https://site.example.com

A redirect loop often needs checking both the application URL settings and any upstream proxy. For a 500 response, inspect the site error log before changing server-wide settings.

6. Accept the installation

Test a database-backed page, application login and outbound email separately. Store a file/database backup off the machine and restore it in a test environment. For WordPress, measure before adding caching layers and follow the optimization guide.
